OMB hearing on hold

The Ontario Municipal Board hearing over the former Lafarge lands has been postponed -- again. That's after a proposed agreement between the developer, Silvercreek (Guelph) Developments Ltd., and the parties opposed to the development wasn't finalized on time for the hearing to begin next week. Instead, the hearing is scheduled for Feb. 4.

Howitt Park Neighbourhood Group had intended to take the proposal to its members Jan. 11, but details of the proposal are still being worked on, the group's president, Ron Foley said.

"We're waiting for more information. The whole thing didn't finalize," he said. "There's a couple of last details that didn't get there by Friday night."

The proposal is for 400,000 square feet of commercial space and a public park on the site, which is bordered to the west by the Hanlon Expressway and to the north and south by rail lines.

The other parties opposed to the development are the city and Armel Corp.
